Custom Medical Manager Interfaces

Micro-Office began developing the Medical Manager interface engine over 15 years ago. It has steadily evolved, and now offers the best balance of features, performance and reliability.

The engine consists of two main components. The Export engine send messages out of Medical Manager. It can handle Demographics, Appointments, Recalls, Transactions, Support Files (Master Files), and Lab Orders. In HL7 terminology, it supports ADT, DFT, SIU, ORM and MFN messages. Aside from HL7, it also supports a multi-record format developed by Micro-Office to most efficiently export Medical Manager data, and can be customized for any other data format.

Features:

The Export is typically used in the following modes:

• Full: does a full dump of the records in Medical Manager, or a selected subset.
• Live: tracks changes as they occur and exports them within 30 seconds (configurable)

A Status Monitor screen allows users to monitor and stop the interface from any Medical Manager session:



The Export also includes a log viewer which enables users to verify if and when data when sent, and to see status events that affected the interface. Log information is kept for 20 days (configurable) and then automatically purged. The viewer has many options for selecting just the desired log information. In particular, the account filter allows you to see just the events related to a particular patient:

The (S)earch option allows finding specific information. The display can be scrolled left and right to show more info and the exact filename in which the message was exported.

The Import engine posts messages into Medical Manager. It can create and update patient demographics, appointments, recalls, transactions, support files (Master Files), and Lab Results. In HL7 terminology, it supports ADT, DFT, SIU, ORU and MFN messages. Aside from HL7, it also supports a multi-record format developed originally for Data Merge imports, and enhanced by Micro-Office to most efficiently export Medical Manager data, and can be customized for any other data format.

The import can be run by users at specified times, or left running all the time – it will poll for files or messages every 30 seconds (configurable). For charge imports, in version 10 or higher of Medical Manager, it can import to the Pending Charges module or import as actual charges.

A Status Monitor screen allows users to monitor and stop the interface from any Medical Manager session, similar to the Export Status Monitor.

The Import also includes a log viewer which enables users to verify each record that was received, and how it was handled. Any exceptions are shown, for instance if a record could not be imported due to a missing key piece of information. Log information is kept for 20 days (configurable) and then automatically purged. The viewer has many options for selecting just the desired log information. In particular, the account filter allows you to see just the events related to a particular patient. Also, it can be run just to show exceptions, or to show all activity. When an exception is shown, it also shows the context.



The Import Engine can also be used with an optional interactive mode that allows users to preview and control each record as it is being imported. Corrections can be made, matching to existing patients verified, and updates allowed or skipped as desired.

For both engines, HL7 mode can work either in file mode (reading/writing physical files) or TCP socket mode.
